Good Morning Britain's Dr Hilary 'breaks' coronavirus rule live on air leaving Piers and Susanna stunned

Good Morning Britain's Dr Hilary appeared to 'break' a key coronavirus rule live on air this morning leaving hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid stunned.

ITV's resident health and medical expert seemingly slipped up when he got too close to Richard Arnold as he was brought into the studio to celebrate his birthday.

Piers and Susanna quickly shouted out anxiously as the blunder was made live on air, the Mirror Online reports.

Both Piers and Susanna had been unimpressed after producers said that there would be too many people in the studio if Richard entered the studio.

The pair wanted to bring Richard on set to wish him a happy birthday but bosses said that there wasn't enough time.

Dr Hilary had said that he would get up and leave and moved to exit the studio to allow Richard in.

"Honestly, the fact that we can't bring him in and wish him happy birthday - Dr Hilary, you might have to leave for five minutes," a determined Piers said.

He went on to say that his daughter only had one person attend her birthday - who happened to be himself.

"That's really disappointing," Susanna joked.

Richard poked his head around the door and initially, Piers and Susanna cheered.

But when Dr Hilary went up to him to usher him in, Susanna called out panicked: "No, no, no! You're supposed to be socially distanced!

She sighed, saying: "Oh dear."

"You're too close," Piers pointed out. "This is the problem with doctors!"

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
