Good Morning Britain's Doctor Sarah Jarvis reveals who is most at risk during heatwave

Good Morning Britain health expert Doctor Sarah Jarvis has revealed who is most at risk during the heatwave.

Temperatures have climbed across the UK this week, with some areas hit by thunder storms, while people in other parts of the country have experienced restless nights due to muggy conditions.

And last weekend saw much of the country bathed in sunshine, which, while is a great opportunity to catch some rays, the heat can also have a detrimental effect and not just because of sunburn.

Speaking on Wednesday's GMB, Dr Sarah identified the people most 'at risk' because of the heatwave.

She explained: "Older people are at much higher risk because they’r not aware of when they become dehydrated so they’re more at risk of heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

"And of course babies."

She then shocked hosts Adil Ray and Kate Garraway by identifying another, adding: "At this time, please also give a thought to menopausal women.

“There’s an awful lot of them out there – and night sweats as well as hot flushes are a real thing.

“Frankly, they are only too used to being able to have different layers they can throw off at night and putting their sheets in the fridge in a plastic bag or even in the freezer in a plastic bag and bringing them out a bit earlier.”
