Good Morning Britain's Doctor Hilary Jones alarms Kate Garraway with coronavirus bombshell

As the country braces itself for more announcements on the pandemic, Doctor Hilary Jones has dropped a coronavirus bombshell that alarmed Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway.

Addressing the nation on Thursday evening, Prime Minister Boris Johnson told members of the public they must self-isolate for seven days if they start displaying any symptoms of coronavirus.

The PM said: "If you have coronavirus symptoms however mild, either a new continuous cough or a high temperature, then you should stay at home for at least seven days to protect others and help slow the spread of the disease.

"We advise all those over 70 with serious medical conditions against going on cruises and we advise against international school trips."

On Thursday, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK rose to 596 but the government’s chief scientific adviser has warned the actual number could be between 5,000 to 10,000.

And, speaking on Friday's GMB Dr Hiliary shared those sentiments and shocked presenter Kate when he said: "It's very likely that this virus is widespread in our society right now."

Kate responded "Up to 10,000 cases?," to which Hilary quickly replied "far more."

Another expert on the show then remarked "they were saying 100,000 yesterday; think on that" to which, a more and more alarmed Kate questioned: "100,000 people that don't know? Wow!"
