Good Morning Britain's Ben Shephard severs nerves in horrific football injury

Ben Shephard presented Thursday's Good Morning Britain whilst nursing a horrific injury he sustained whilst playing football.

The popular host was back on the ITV daytime show alongside Susanna Reid, who told viewers she was left taken aback by Ben's appearance as he turned up for work wearing a leg brace.

Revealing the extent of his injury, Tipping Point star Ben explained he'd ruptured his ACL, torn his meniscus and fractured his leg during a football match, but had not realised the extent of the injury so soldiered on.

He added that because his nerves he failed to realise just how bad the injury was.

Discussing how he came to end up in a leg brace, Ben told Susanna and concerned viewers at home: "A few weeks to go, you may remember I played in the Cup Final of the Arthur Dunn veterans cup, my old boys team.

"We won the Cup Final, but I started with two legs and ended with one.

"Without realising, I have ruptured my ACL, I've torn the meniscus and I've fractured part of my leg as well."

Listening in, GMB's resident medic , Doctor Hilary Jones replied "That's a nasty injury, that is a nasty injury."

Dr Hilary said he approved of Ben's brace, before the host added: "It looks a bit Robocop-esque, interestingly I didn't realise I had done it quite so badly, I carried on playing for 25-minutes before I thought, 'It feels a little bit unstable, perhaps I should stop'.

"It turns out I had severed all the nerves which is why I couldn't feel any pain, and just carried on playing."

Confirming how serious an injury it actually is, Dr Hilary then interrupted to say: "Basically, this is the ligament that holds the lower leg on to the upper leg, so it's very dramatic!"
