Good Morning Britain's Alex Beresford to take on Ninja Warrior UK

We may be used to seeing him on our screens as Good Morning Britain's weatherman, but Bristol's very own Alex Beresford will step into an entirely new role when he takes on the Ninja Warrior UK challenge.

The hit TV series - which will be returning to ITV for its fifth series on Saturday - will see dozens of competitors take their chance at becoming the UK's very first Ninja Warrior.

Bristol's Alex Beresford calls out Piers Morgan during heated Good Morning Britain debate on knife crime

In the course of the show's UK history more than 1,000 people have taken on the challenge, but not one has yet successfully beaten the ultimate obstacle course.

Alex is one of this series' celebrity contestants - but that doesn't mean there'll be any easy route to the top.

He said: "I’m a massive fan of the show. I used to sit at home and watch it with my family whenever it was on. I just thought it looked like a great laugh. I’ve always kept quite fit and I always like a challenge.

"So, for me naturally it was something that I wanted to do."

Despite putting in hours at the gym, it wasn't long before Alex realised that taking on the infamous course would be a challenge like no other.

He said: "The course was hard! I realised that it was a lot harder than it looks on television.

"Even the steps at the beginning, they’re weren’t easy. It looks pretty straightforward when you’re watching it. It’s only when you have a go and you realise why people fall at the first hurdle. I found that out when I did the show.

"When I got to the steps I was hanging on for dear life because what you can’t see is that they do shake when you land on them. You’re a little bit unsteady and then they do change in height and distance from each other.

BBC's Alex Lovell was afraid to go out alone after rape threats from stalker

"So, just to get past the first bit, I was really pleased. The coins were the thing that I thought I was going to fail but luckily I went for it hammer and tong and I just ran so fast. It was a great experience but I’ve been left kicking myself."

And how did Alex rate his GMB co-star's changes at tackling the challenge?

He said: "The only other person I can imagine who would have the guts to have a go would be Sean Fletcher. He runs marathons and he’s quite fit. He could probably train for something like this.

Lotto results: The winning National Lottery numbers for Saturday's £11.6million jackpot

"I’d love to see Piers Morgan have a go but we all know if it’s not anything to do with sitting behind a desk, then he’s not interested."

Ninja Warrior UK starts Saturday at 6.30pm on ITV.
