Good Morning Britain’s Adil Ray says Richard Madeley trumped him to getting more ‘brown faces’ on TV after ‘pumpkin-like’ tan

Good Morning Britain presenter Adil Ray joked that Richard Madeley’s tan meant he had “trumped” him by being the “brown face” on TV during Wednesday’s show.

The TV presenter, who is among the hosts stepping in for Piers Morgan whilst he is off for the Easter holidays, couldn’t resist mocking Madeley after he appeared on the show with a bizarre orange hue to his skin.

Comedian Ray told co-host Ranvir Singh how Madeley’s skin tone made him look like he was “part of the family”.

He said: "I thought a member of my family was presenting the show yesterday in fact, uncle Richard."

In stitches: Ray struggled to contain his laughter (Good Morning Britain/ ITV)

Part of me always thinks I'm here for diversity and they want more brown faces on the telly and Richard Madeley trumped me to it yesterday.

"What am I supposed to do?"

Later on in the show Ray told how he had been given a bottle of fake tan to match Madeley’s complexion.

Ray’s savage remarks come after Eamonn Holmes also fired shots at the presenter, whilst on This Morning.

When quizzed on his favourite beauty tips, Holmes said: “Drink plenty of water and don’t use false tan to excess. That’s what I’d say.”

Despite accusations from fellow presents that he had used self-tan, Madeley defended himself during yesterday’s show and put the colour down to makeup.

Apologising to viewers for his “pumpkin-like” skin, he said: “I agree, it's looking a bit orangey. It could only be make-up but there is a tan underneath. Sorry everybody.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
