Good Morning Britain's Adil Ray has savage reaction as show halted for Eurovision announcement

Adil Ray made a savage dig at London as Friday's Good Morning Britain was halted to break news of which UK cities had made the Eurovision shortlist and the capital failed to make the cut.

Earlier this year it was confirmed that even though their act, the Kalush Orchestra won in Turin in May, Ukraine won't be hosting the world famous event next year. The United Kingdom's Sam Ryder finished in second, so the UK will take on the event, with the BBC vowing that the 2023 contest will be very much a celebration of Ukranian culture.

Once the news that the UK would host Eurovision was made official, speculation started on where it would take place. Big contenders like Cardiff ruled themselves out of the race, while Belfast, a favourite in the eyes of the bookies, failed to make the cut when the shortlist of seven cities was announced live on Zoe Ball's BBC Breakfast Show on Friday.

There was delight for Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield and Brummy presenter Adil was clearly delighted that his home town was still very much in the running, as co-host Charlotte Hawkins remarked that "I think we know which one you'll be going for.

Adil then continued: "I'm loving that a lot of them are sort of northern," adding: "Birmingham has got a good chance; I think any of those would be great,"

One glaring absentee from the list was London and it was after Charlotte replied: "Of course," that Adil took a swipe at the capital city when he said: "I'm glad it's just not in London, get it in other parts of the country," with Charlotte appearing to agree as she commented: "Share the love."
