Good Morning Britain's Adil Ray addresses backlash from viewers

Adil Ray addressed the viewer backlash he often receives presenting ITV's Good Morning Britain.

The presenter joined the Loose Women panel to discuss the many ITV programmes he fronts including Lingo and the topical morning programme, GMB.

Adil admitted Lingo is a lot more fun than viewers initially gave it credit for but the conversation soon turned to the more controversial moments he has to endure whilst hosting GMB.

The show often sees its presenters clash with interviewees or controversial figures which ushers in a wave of viewer backlash, typically based on accusations they are rude, dismissive or continuously interrupt one another. Adil is one of the more neutral hosts but he revealed he's still no stranger to online abuse.

Asking whether or not he deals with it head-on, Loose Women panellist Jane Moore said: "In the social media era, you do live television and I'd imagine for a lot of your opinions you get a lot of stick. Do you look at it or do you ignore it?"

The usual rule of thumb for any celebrity is to look past the negative comments but Adil often tries to level with those sending him abuse. He said: "I do look at it and I know this sounds ridiculous but I try to engage. I get lots of people accusing me of being racist or saying all sorts of things to me on Twitter - I do try and engage with some of them.

"I have a firm belief they don't know me and they've made this judgement call but I know I'm not a racist." Adil explained he often tries to discuss the topics in further detail in an attempt to "talk them around."
