Good Morning Britain Richard Bacon's awkward blunder leaves co-host red faced

Good Morning Britain fans were left cringing at Richard Bacon's awkward on-air blunder during a live interview this morning.

Richard and co-host Charlotte Hawkins stepped in to host the morning show while Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid are off.

One of the final segments on the show was an interview with radio host Cerys Matthews about her new cookery book and a festival she is launching in Chester.

The former pop star was introduced by Richard , who said she was famously once in the band 'Catalonia'.

An awkward silence briefly ensued, before Charlotte quickly stepped in to say: "Catalonia?! They were called Catatonia!"

Trying to paper over the error, Cerys said: "I did once live in Catalonia".

The interview then got back on track with talk of Cerys' cookbook Where the Wild Cooks Go and a festival she is launching called The Good Life Experience.

However, the blunder didn't escape the attention of fans, with some viewers taking to social media to point out the mistake.

Carrie Hayler tweeted to say: "Richard Bacon once again proving what a absolute plonker he is interviewing Cerys Matthews about her band Catalonia."

Twitter user @PabloBonzo said: "Matthews off of Catatonia lived for a year in Catalonia. #GMBfacts"

After spending the interview trying to backpedal and cover the blunder, Richard couldn't help himself from bringing it up again at the end of the segment.

Ending the interview, he said: "And I've got to say, my favourite memory is watching Catatonia in Catalonia."
