Good Morning Britain nearly didn't go ahead this morning as hosts revel 'all sorts of dramas'

If you're a Good Morning Britain fan, your morning almost started a little differently.

The ITV news programme was struck by a power cut causing 'all sorts of dramas' for the hosts and crew.

Revealing the chaos at the start of Tuesday's show, Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway said that the team only made it on air by the skin of their teeth.

The studio was plunged into darkness with no microphones, no internet to speak to their guests via video link, and no hairdryers.

Kate explained: "We had a massive power cut at Good Morning Britain, it's been all sorts of dramas. They couldn't use any printers to print us the briefs to brief us on the stories.

"They had no lights, the air conditioning went off, the server which is the thing that brings the show to you and allows us at the moment to speak to our guests because they are not allowed into the studio.

"The director is now taking the mick at my technical explanations!"

She then joked: "We hope it lasts until 9pm, there is a bit of gaffer tape over everything ... Chaos at Good Morning Britain this morning.

"Glad to have the lights back on!"

And just to test their live TV nerve, one of the crew turned off the lights again before switching off Kate's microphone just to rattle her.

The joys, and stresses, of live telly!

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
