Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid apologises over Michael Gove cocaine blunder

Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid had to apologise on-air today after making an awkward blunder when talking about Michael Gove's cocaine confession.

The telly beauty, 48, was talking about the politician's admission about taking the drug 20 years ago while working as a journalist when she tripped over her words.

She said: "Conservative leadership candidate Michael Gove has admitted he was fortunate to avoid jail for using cocaine on several journalists.”

Susanna's co-host Piers Morgan, 54, couldn't resist pulling her up on the gaffe.

He retorted: "On several journalist, what? Do you know something we don’t?"

Susanna looked mortified and immediately apologised for her mistake, saying: "He was using it on several occasions...

"Sorry, I’m so sorry... I don’t have inside information.

"He used it on several occasions as a journalist.”

Tory leadership contender Gove apologised for his cocaine confession during an appearance on the Andrew Marr Show yesterday.

The Environment Secretary said: "Yes it was a crime, it was a mistake. I deeply regret it."

Asked if he should have gone to prison, he replied: "I was fortunate that I didn't but I do think that it was a profound mistake and I've seen the damage that drugs do.

"I've seen it close up and I've also seen it in the work that I've done as a politician and that's why I deeply regret the mistake that I made."

"I took it several occasions, on social occasions more than 20 years ago when I was working as a journalist."

Mr Gove denied he had a habit, saying: "No, I don't believe it was. It was a mistake and it was a mistake that I deeply regret."
