Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray left worried as he battles cough

Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray admitted he had concerns after coughing a few times on air on Thursday.

Adil has become more of a regular on the show in recent weeks after Piers Mogan took his extended break for summer and today he was once again sat next to co-presenter Ranvir Singh to front the ITV daytime programme.

Picking up on Adil's troublesome cough as he coughed into his hand, Ranvir said: "Welcome back, are you alright?"

"The thing is, he's been stifling a cough since we came on air!"

A persistent cough is, of course, one of the primary and most easily identifiable symptoms of coronavirus and, speculating that his cough could see him sent home as a precaution, Adil replied: "Everyone in the country must be going through this at the moment, I wanted to cough but I thought if I cough, the editor will come down and send me home!

"Saying, 'He's got the virus, he can't present!'"

Explaining that it wasn't just on the show that he'd been plagued with a cough, Adil continued: "I was in the supermarket queue ... and people must have done this, I haven't got the virus but you have a tickly throat, you'll cough to clear out that little bit of something that might be there, I thought, 'No, I'm not going to cough, I'll scare everyone!'

Picking up on his cough, a viewer who herself had previously had coronavirus tweeted: "The cough. I’ve had the virus, but have the clampy tickles in the throat and coughing now and again. I noticed two others doing this at my tennis clubs yesterday.

"This might be something to be aware of..."
