Good Morning Britain guest caught out by phone blunder during spiking debate

A guest on Good Morning Britain was left mortified after a phone blunder on today's show.

Today's edition of the ITV news programme was hosted by Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid.

The presenting pair hosted a debate on what can be done to curb the reported rise in spiking cases in nightclubs.

They were joined by Michael Kill from the Night Time Industries Association, who has been campaigning for an inquiry to be opened into drink spiking after the worrying rise.

He said: "The Home Office should launch a formal inquiry to examine the results of that pilot, and the lessons that can be applied to the industry and policing nationally.

"The scheme found that through having on-site testing available in the night time economy, data could be collected that would provide a more accurate picture."

However, as Michael was discussing the issue, his phone rang as somebody was trying to get in touch with him.

Richard Madeley stepped in and said: "Don't worry, we've all been there. We'll let that ring out."

Michael's phone continued to ring at numerous times throughout the debate as viewers took to Twitter to comment on the blunder.

@Lynchy3188 said: "You’d think being live on @GMB you’d all turn your phones off or at least put them on silent. #ping #GMB"

@TypeofTime added: "Nah seriously doesn’t this guy know how to put the phone on silent or turn it off."

Sarah commented: "Is that bloke incapable of turning his phone off for 5 minute."

@arlawrencewrite tweeted : "Wouldn't you put your phone on silent during a TV interview or turn it off?"

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITVHub
