Good Morning Britain guest accuses Ed Balls of talking 'nonsense'

Good Morning Britain guest Ed Balls was accused of talking "nonsense" during Wednesday's programme.

Ed was joined by Susanna Reid to front the daytime ITV programme, as they discussed topical news and events. One conversation focused around a new weight loss injection that is set to be sold on UK high streets.

Wegovy, also known as semaglutide, is said to help patients suppress appetite and was recently approved for use. Chemists will be able to provide a full service for patients, including both the prescribing and dispensing of the drug.

But while Wegovy can help with appetite in some instances, it is not a guaranteed quick-fix and the website lists nausea, diarrhoea and bloating among potential side effects. Additionally, a 2022 study found that users can regain most of the weight that they lost after coming off of the drug.

Discussing the new jab, they were joined by weight loss coach Steve Miller and other guests. Ed said: "There are people who, because of their body, find that they can't lose weight, and if this can help them..."

Steve interrupted with: "No, no no", before adding: "Have you just said that some people can't lose weight? Is that what you're saying?

"Are you suggesting to the nation this morning that people have physiological issues so they can't lose weight? It's nonsense, of course people can lose weight. I will not allow you to say that."

Steve also suggested a weight loss jab is not the answer, because it won't "fix" any emotional issues people have, and that they would benefit from "aspirations" and "more self love".

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
