Good Morning Britain 'Govan' gaffe as Piers Morgan calls out presenter for mispronunciation

We're first to admit there's some pretty unusual place names in our city, and many of them are pretty hard to pronounce.

Perhaps we're just so used to it as one of Glasgow's most historic areas, but we'd never have thought before 'Govan' was particularly challenging.

However, GMB broadcaster Andi Peters came a cropper when in the city today, and was ribbed by Piers Morgan and Susannah Reid for referring to the area as "Gove-an".

In the clip, shared on Twitter, Piers Morgan said: "If you're going to go to Scotland, at least know how to pronounce some of their most famous places.

"It's not just any old part of Scotland, this is the place where Sir Alex Ferguson comes from. He's from Govan. It's one of the most famous places in the world, and you got it wrong."

And several Glaswegians have had their say since the early morning gaffe.

One said: "Hahahaha what a plonker", while another earlier commented: "Can you please pronounce Govan properly? It isn't Go-van, its pronounced Guvvan".

And a couple of eagle-eyed viewers also spotted Andi wasn't actually even in Govan at all, but was instead across the river in Finnieston, with Govan in the background.

One Twitter user said: "Never mind Andy Peters pronouncing Govan incorrectly. He wasn’t even in Govan. The Riverside Museum is in between Finnieston and Partick", with another adding: "Could someone please inform Piers that Andy Peters (and the Tall Ship) are NOT in Govan?! Govan is on the other side of the River Clyde!!!"
