Good Morning Britain fans call for Piers Morgan to be sacked over 'offensive' impression

Good Morning Britain viewers were left angry after presenter Piers Morgan appeared to mock Chinese people.

The 54-year-old was speaking about Peter Phillips' new TV advert for state milk in China when he started to 'take the mick' out of the language.

Discussing the ad with Susanna Reid, he said: “When is the next big royal event? Can you imagine at Christmas at Sandringham is like - 'I'm sorry your Majesty, but I only drink yang yank yong ying ming milk.’"

Susanna sighed ‘Piers’ after the comments, but the presenter continued as the advert aired again, saying: “OK then - ching chang chong, OK, I got it.”

Susanna shamed her co-worker, saying: “Taking the mick out of languages is rather 1970s.”

And viewers of the show were left unimpressed.

One said: “Little bit offensive there Piers. The 1970s called, they want their Chinese stereotype back. Moron.”

Another wrote: “So Piers Morgan who spent the whole show yesterday defending that he’s not a racist follows on the next morning mimicking a Chinese accent. But I’m sure the @itvstudios will turn a blind eye since it’s ‘entertaining’”.

A third said: “#GMB @piersmorgan breaking too many rules, things are different in 2020, you are a dinosaur who needs to learn some new rules @itv @GMB.”

The presenter has since defended himself after making the comments (ITV)

Piers has since defended himself on Twitter, saying: “I was mocking a member of the British royal family appearing in an advert for Chinese state milk, not Chinese people.”

And some fans rushed to back the presenter, with many claiming that Piers wasn’t mocking Chinese people.

One said: “Piers didn't mock the Chinese people he mocked the Royal cashing in. Get a grip get a life.”

Another tweeted: “Get it right John Barnes, I was watching GMB this morning and there was no way that Piers was mocking the Chinese.”

“Lots of things I don't like about Piers Morgan. But, he was not mocking Chinese PEOPLE this morning. He was trying unsuccessfully to pronounce a Chinese WORD. This country is rapidly losing the ability to laugh at itself,” said another fan of the show.
