Good Morning Britain disaster as power cut plunges studio into darkness

Good Morning Britain was hit by a major technical disaster this morning after a power cut plunged the studio into darkness.

Hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard explained how the show very nearly didn't go ahead this morning as printers, lights and servers were left completely unoperational.

The show's director then jokingly turned Kate's microphone off and dimmed the host's overhead lights just to scare them, the Mirror Online reports.

Kate said they thought they fixed everything at 4.30am until she suddenly realised her computer still was not working and she had to make a panicked call to her producer.

"We had a massive power cut at Good Morning Britain, it's been all sorts of dramas. They couldn't use any printers to print us the briefs to brief us on the stories," Kate explained.

"They had no lights, the air conditioning went off, the server which is the thing that brings the show to you and allows us at the moment to speak to our guests because they are not allowed into the studio."

She then laughed: "The director is now taking the mick at my technical explanations!" and the prankster behind the camera then turned off the lights again before switching off Kate's microphone just to scare her.

Kate joked that the worst thing of all would have been the lack of hairdryers as they told weather presenter Laura Tobin she would have to give the viewers four hours of weather.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays on ITV at 6am
