Good Morning Britain: Charlotte Hawkins clashes with Tory commentator in heated Boris Johnson debate

Things got heated on Good Morning Britain this morning, when a host clashed with a Conservative Party commentator during a segment looking into the UK Prime Minister.

Charlotte Hawkins and co-host Adil Ray invited Alex Deane and journalist Nina Myskow onto the ITV hit show, to discuss Boris Johnson's grasp on the global Coronavirus pandemic, questioning if he had lost control of the party.

And when Charlotte probed Alex on burning matters, it didn't take the Tory commentator long to defend the PM - The Mirror Reports.

Charlotte started off the segment by asking "Has he lost control of the pandemic and his own party?"

Referring to the PM, she added: ."Alex, let's come to you first. It can't get much worse for him, one would say?"

To which, Alex replied: "Well, I'm having to take the one-by-one if you like and I hope you'll be fair rather than presenting just one position.

"It's clear that lockdowns are economically punishing and can be disastrous, so when government doesn't do something and everyone pillories them for it, sometimes they're doing the right thing."

Show host, Charlotte, responded: "Okay, you're looking at the government as the overview but if we're talking about Boris Johnson and him personally and the things that he is responsible for and when we look at what has happened.

"It's just one thing after another. There is a long list of things and he is at the head and is supposed to be in control of all of this?"

"That's definitely the narrative that some people seem to like," Alex snapped back.

"On the parties that you like to recite, I can't help but notice that Keir Starmer having a few beers with his colleagues doesn't make the list nor does Andy Burnham singing some karaoke with Angela Rayner..."

However Charlotte went on to interrupt Alex mid-sentence, touching on how the Conservative party are alleged to have broken social distancing rules.

She said: "I'm not saying any parties are good enough," adding: "All I'm suggesting is, if you're setting the rules, if you're a party in government then you should be abiding by them."

Alex then described it as a 'coordinated attack' on the PM - while either Adil or Charlotte were heard scoffing in the background.

"Those who just trot out the list in the way that some people do Charlotte, are complicit in that attack," Alex said sarcastically.

"It's clearly a coordinated attack by people who don't like the Prime Minister."

However, it wasn't just Charlotte who got heated with Alex, and later in the segment, Adil went on to clash with him too.

Alex told him: "I get you think this is the opportunity to have a go at - and potentially even bring down a Prime Minister - and I understand the excitement some people have of that."

However, an unimpressed Alex replied: "Alex, I'm not going to let you do that - I don't care whether it's Boris Johnson who is Prime Minister or not.

Alex claimed it was 'a coordinated attack by people who don't like the Prime Minister' (PA)

"I'm talking about people like me who lost people during this pandemic.

"I lost three relatives, so don't say to me I'm trying to be political.

"There are people out there thinking 'why is he able to have cheese and wine in his garden and there are some people who weren't able to see their loved ones?

"This isn't just politics - please think about those people too, Alex,"

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
