Good Morning Britain chaos as Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard forced to apologise

Hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard were forced to apologise to viewers of Good Morning Britain today.

The set of the morning talk show was in chaos as it was revealed that someone in the studio had spilt a cup of coffee on the mixing desk.

This caused "everything" to "go wrong" as they suffered a spate of technical difficulties.

Beginning the show, Ben admitted: "We have an issue" and then asked Kate: "Have you been in the gallery?"

She replied: "What, because everything’s going wrong?"

Ben went on to explain: "Someone has spilt something on our mixing desk and one of the buttons keeps getting stuck. So every now and again, strange things will appear on the screen. It could happen throughout this morning's show."

As he said it a slide popped up too early and he said: "Oh look, there we go."

Ben was quick to blame his co-presenter but Kate insisted it was nothing to do with her as she revealed something very similar happened when she began at Smooth radio, with the star managing to pour an entire vanilla latte over the mixing desk.

She said: "For once, I think I might not be responsible. Which is a shock in itself isn't it?"

Ben asked if one of the engineers could go and fix the desk as that would be "quite handy" as he added: "So apologies if random things pop up. Genuinely there's been a spillage or something in the gallery and a button has gotten stuck."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
