Good Morning Britain and Love Island most complained about shows of 2021

Ofcom has revealed that Good Morning Britain and Love Island were the most complained about shows of 2021.

An end of year report from the UK's communications regulator confirms the top 10 television shows which prompted viewers to call or email in and make a complaint.

Nine of out 10 of the programmes were shown on ITV - with the exception being Channel 5 show Celebrities: What's Happened To Your Face?

The most complained about show of the year was breakfast programme Good Morning Britain - in particular the episode which aired on March 8.

There were 54,595 complaints about this instalment of the ITV series, which focused heavily on the interview between Oprah Winfrey and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

GMB was being hosted by Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on that particular day, and the following day Piers announced that he was quitting his role as presenter.

The second most complained about show of 2021 was reality TV series Love Island, which airs on ITV2.

The episode in question was shown on August 6 and featured Faye Winter arguing with her on/off partner Teddy Soares.

Viewers were not impressed with Faye's behaviour and the way in which she was talking to Teddy.

In third place was Celebrities: What Happened To Your Face? which prompted a total of 7,125 complaints about remarks made on the appearance of a number of celebrities in the programme.

Oprah Winfrey's explosive interview with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle came in at fourth place with a total of 6,486 complaints.

Love Island received a further 4,337 complaints in regards to the episode shown on July 28 and featured the women on the show being sent a postcard as the men partied in Casa Amor.

The remaining five shows were all ITV daytime shows: Good Morning Britain, Lorraine and This Morning.
