Good Morning America host who mocked Prince George dressed as royal for Halloween

A Good Morning America host has had her Halloween costume come back to haunt her.

Lara Spencer has been branded 'shameful' for mocking Prince George attending ballet lessons.

And viewers of the US morning show watched her laugh as she spoke about how the little royal will be studying the dance at school this year.

Co-hosts of the 50-year-old could also be heard giggling as she paused after revealing the subject.

Speaking on the show, Lara said: "The future king of England will be putting down the Playdoh to take on Religious Studies, computer programming poetry and ballet among other things."

After the audience erupted with laughter, Laura held back her own giggles as she added: "Prince William says George absolutely loves ballet, I have news for you Prince William we'll see how long that lasts."

George is returning to his £18k a year St Thomas’s Battersea school next month and his new curriculum will involve weekly ballet practice.

Lara has been slammed for the remarks.

And it has emerged the host was happy to dress up as Prince George for Halloween in 2014.

The mum-of-two sat inside a "baby stroller" with only her head showing, which was attached to a baby doll’s body.

There was a gold "HRH" embroidered on the baby’s clothing, and Lara wore a golden crown on her head.

The comments have been attacked by British celebrities including Strictly Come Dancing's Arlene Philips.

Writing on Instagram , the star said: "What a shameful, outdated, harmful attitude being broadcast to the masses. Dance has countless scientifically proven benefits for physical and mental health.

"There should be nothing but encouragement for any male who chooses to try dance whether it's as a fun hobby or for a future as a professional."

Choreographer Brian Friedman slammed the presenter, wrote on Instagram: "See this cute face, the future King of England? This adorable boy is being shamed by a grown woman on National Television in America for taking ballet!

"Lara, you should be ashamed of yourself as well as George Stephanopoulos for laughing along & Good Morning America  for letting public shaming of young boys happen!

"It infuriates me and I would appreciate everyone sharing this and forcing a public apology to Prince George, The Royal Family, all male dancers and all dancers in general for being so insensitive."

Head of the lower school at St Thomas’s Battersea school, Helen Haslem, wrote on the website this week: "The curriculum presented in Year 2 reflects the increased ability of the children, both academically and socially.

"It sees the completion of the basic skills in literacy and numeracy in Key Stage 1.

"Individual strengths and talents begin to emerge, which you will undoubtedly begin to see."
