Good luck trying to see ‘The Odyssey’ opening weekend

Tickets went on sale an entire year early to see Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and you can buy them now, for resale value that is marked up by over 100%. Well, to be fair, it is just for one screening on opening weekend but still.

There are rumors that there are tickets for sale on secondary websites running for over $100. Frankly, I’d wait for any other IMAX screening that will happen that weekend but the fact that these tickets did sell out everywhere that quickly does say a lot about our excitement for Nolan and his work.

At 12:20 AM on the East Coast, IMAX posted the news on X and within moments, the tickets were gone. Whether everyone is a bunch of Homer heads or we’re all just really excited about Christopher Nolan remains to be seen. But I do love it as a Nolan fan myself. He deserves his flowers and while his movies have been popular in IMAX in the past, knowing that The Odyssey is instantly selling out screenings is pretty amazing.

The Odyssey is Nolan’s follow-up to Oppenheimer and marks the first time that Matt Damon has led a Nolan film. Damon has worked with Nolan twice before, once in Oppenheimer as General Leslie Groves and also as Mann in Interstellar. But I’d wager that even if Christopher Nolan made a movie about reading the phone book and shot it on IMAX, it’d sell out a similar way because it is Nolan and he’s fresh off his Oscar-winning film.

At first, the news that The Odyssey already sold out was a bit upsetting. The film is highly anticipated by long-time Nolan fans but don’t worry, there will be more chances to see it.

At least there will be other options

“Nolan bros” know that his films sell out. But these are just one showing each day of that opening weekend. Meaning that you still have a chance to nab a ticket. So maybe don’t spend $100 on one off eBay or something. But this is exciting to see!

I have been a Nolan fan for the last 20ish years. My teenage self discovered him and never looked back. He has directed so many of my favorite films and I do think that he is single-handedly trying to keep the movie-going experience alive with his work. So to see him rewarded by The Odyssey selling out important IMAX screenings within minutes is pretty incredible.

This film is exciting for a number of reasons. Just ask all your friends who really loved English class. They’ll tell you the joy of Homer’s epic poem. But if you just like Nolan films, I think this is going to be on you won’t want to miss and with Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, and Zendaya (just to name a few), this is going to be “epic.”

So just wait for the next batch of tickets but hey, at least some lucky fans of Nolan’s work are sat at those first few screenings!
