Good Housekeeping boosts lead over Glamour in women’s lifestyle sector

Good Housekeeping boosted its sales in the second half of last year to remain the most popular women’s monthly lifestyle title.

The Hearst UK title overtook long-time leader Glamour in print and digital sales in the first half of the year, according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations figures, published on Thursday.

Good Housekeeping reported combined print and digital sales of 419,575 – 14,522 ahead of Glamour – for the second half of 2014. Its combined sales were up 1.2% year on year, a 3.1% rise on the first half.

Condé Nast’s Glamour reported a combined sale of 405,053, down 2.5% year on year but flat on the first half.

Newhall Publications’ Candis was the biggest paid-for faller in the sector, with an 18.4% year-on-year slide in its combined sale to 133,728, while Look dropped by 17.1% to 155,708.

Other significant fallers included Time Inc UK’s Marie Claire, which fell by 12.9% year on year to 198,420, and Kelsey Media’s Psychologies, which slid by 12.2% to 66,245.

Bauer’s Grazia’s combined sales dipped by just 0.8% on the previous six months, but were down by 3.7% year on year to 154,036.

Hearst’s Elle was up 5.3% on the previous period, but fell by 5.0% year to year to 163,498.
