'Good enough for the Premier League' - pundit's high praise for Sunderland's Aiden McGeady

Clinton Morrison believes Sunderland's Aiden McGeady could still play Premier League football.

The Irish star has been a key man for Jack Ross' Black Cats this season as they've pushed for promotion from League One straight back to the Championship.

Regularly terrorising defences, he's scored 14 goals and assisted six more this term.

And although Sunderland's draw at Peterborough took automatic promotion out of their own hands with three games remaining, Morrison believes McGeady's quality gives the Black Cats a huge advantage.

He told Sky Sports: "I think they've got the most outstanding player, in my opinion, in that league in Aiden McGeady

"I played with him for Ireland. I don't know how this kid is playing at that level. And that's not being disrespectful to League One. He's so talented, he could even go and play in the Premier League."

Automatic promotion is now out of Sunderland's hands and they are relying on other teams if they are to avoid needing play-offs.

Of course they will have to win their remaining three games too, starting with a huge clash against Portsmouth on Saturday at the Stadium of Light.

McGeady bagged a brace the last time the two teams met a month ago at Wembley in the Checkatrade Trophy final. Although they didn't get the result that day, they'll be hoping for a repeat performance from McGeady to help bag all three points.
