Good Covid-19 news Ireland: Two 'light yellow' and only one Dublin 'redzone' as capital winning coronavirus hotspot race

There's some very promising Covid-19 news for Dublin this morning as there is currently only one virus redzone in the capital.

Most of the county is performing extremely well with two areas in particularly confirming 'light yellow' territory just two weeks out from exiting Level 5.

The new list of towns and areas hardest hit by coronavirus in Ireland has been unveiled by the Department of Health with the majority of Dublin in orange or light orange categories.

Health chiefs use a key measure called the 'incidence rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population' to determine the best and worst spots all over Ireland.

And by this metric this week, Tallaght South is the worst-hit region in Dublin for the second week in a row with a rate of 251.

But on the flip side of that, Killiney-Shankill (52.5) and Pembroke (59.4) are flying the flag for Dublin and for Ireland in the continued hope for a Level 2 or 3 Christmas.

It's Killiney-Shankill's second week in light yellow with Pembroke making its debut in the under 60 confirmed cases per 100,000 population zone.

And the rest of the country must follow in the pair's footpaths after Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan warned that Ireland had "lost one week".

The CMO said that Ireland had just two weeks to make up for lost time if they wanted to exit Level 5.

He pleaded that the country "still had time" to right the wrongs of the last week but that the next fortnight would be crucial.

Dr Holohan said: "If we’re going to get to where we want to be, we’ve got ground that we need to make up by the end of this month.

"We’re not saying that the can’t be done but what we are saying is that really now everybody has to redouble their efforts."
