'Good choice' - Arsenal fans celebrate after Man United winger sends message to transfer chiefs

Jesse Lingard would prefer to stay at Manchester United and fight for a first team place than join Arsenal, according to reports.

The England midfielder has recently been linked with a switch to north London, with speculation that United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be prepared to sell in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal have been touted as a potential destination, with Gunners head of football Raul Sanllehi having close ties with Lingard's agent Mino Raiola, but the player himself has no intention of a move to the Emirates, according to the Metro.

Lingard's contract at United expires in 12 months, but the 27-year-old is reportedly prepared to let his contract run down rather than join Mikel Arteta's side.

Some Arsenal supporters took to social media to respond to the reports, with many happy that Lingard would seemingly prefer to stay at Old Trafford.

One wrote: 'I'll pay Lingard with my own money to step away from Arsenal,' while another posted: 'This is my favourite story of the year so far,' in response to the reports.

Bruno Fernandes' arrival at United in January has reduced Lingard's playing time further, and he is no longer integral to the first-team.

United value Lingard at around £30million, and could sell him to raise funds for Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho, with Everton, Roma and Atletico Madrid all thought to be keeping tabs.

Lingard has made 34 appearances in total this season, though only half of those have been in the starting lineup.
