Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea: Transfer 'up in the air' says Milan assistant boss Luigi Riccio

Gonzalo Higuain’s proposed move to Chelsea is “in the air”, says AC Milan assistant boss Luigi Riccio.

Maurizio Sarri is eager for the club to sign Higuain this month to solve the club’s woes up front – with his side scoring the lowest number of goals in the Premier League’s top six.

"As for the transfer market we are all grown-ups, we know how to deal with these situations," Riccio said, according to Gazzetta.

"It has been in the air for a few days.

"But we will work with the players at our disposal."

Chelsea have until 12pm on Wednesday to complete a deal for Higuain if they want him to feature against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final clash between the London rivals.

Higuain was left out of the Milan squad for Monday's trip to Genoa, with Rossoneri boss Gennaro Gattuso admitting pre-match that the speculation had forced that decision.

Milan are reluctant to part with Higuain until they have secured a replacement but have been in talks with Genoa over a move for Krzysztof Piatek.
