Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea? Juventus rule out January transfer as Maurizio Sarri launches striker search

Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici has ruled out the possibility of Chelsea signing Gonzalo Higuain this month.

Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri asked the club in December to make a move for the Argentina striker, who is currently on loan from Juventus at AC Milan.

Talks were held between all three clubs over the possibility of Higuain's season-long deal being cut short with Chelsea's struggling forward Alvaro Morata being sent to AC Milan.

Higuain has failed to impress at the San Siro having scored just eight times, but Paratici has revealed that AC Milan don't want to let him go.

Paratici said: "He remains one of the best strikers in the world, he showed it in these seasons in Europe, he scored everywhere.

"About his future, I think he’s important for AC Milan, he's a great striker and they want to keep him.

"I know very well Gonzalo, he is a simple and passionate guy who lives every situation with great enthusiasm. It can happen even to the best players not to score for four or five games."

Any chance of a transfer taking place was further complicated by the fact that AC Milan had an option to buy Higuian permanently in the summer for £32m.

But Chelsea just wanted a short-term deal and were not prepared to add a similar clause to sign him outright at the end of the campaign - especially as he is 31-years-old.
