Gone Girl's Lisa Banes fighting for life with 'traumatic brain injury' after hit-and-run

Gone Girl star Lisa Banes is fighting for her life after being involved in a hit and run with an electric scooter.

The actress, 65, is reported to have been involved in a collision with an unknown drive in New York, where she is currently in hospital in a 'critical condition'.

Lisa, who played Marybeth Elliott, the mother of Rosamund Pike character in 2014 thriller Gone Girl, was struck by either a scooter or a motorcycle in the Upper West Side of Manhattan on Friday evening, according to her manager.

She was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where she is being treated for a 'traumatic' brain injury.

Talking to People magazine, the NYPD said: "There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.”

Lisa's wife Kathryn Kranhold told The New York Post: "Lisa is in critical condition and we'll know more in the next few days.”

As well as the Ben Affleck hit, Lisa has appeared as in other blockbusters including 80s classics Cocktail and Young Guns.

She's also worked a lot in TV, appearing in Star Trek as Doctor Renhol in an episode of Deep Space Nine, and had roles in in Murder She Wrote, Frasier, Six Feet Under, and Nashville.

Since 2018 it is believed that more than 30 people across the world have died after being involved in electric scooter accidents.

Data compiled by QUARTZ reveal that most of those who died were the riders of the two-wheeled transport, but others lost their lives due to being severely injured after being hit by one.

In many cities, it is now possible to hire an electric scooter, or e-scooter.

They can go surprisingly fast, with the $7,000 Rion RE90 reaching top speeds of 60mph.

As it is an emerging industry there is little regulation regarding their use.

At present, you can rent one for 25p-a-minute in Milton Keynes as part of a year-long national trial before hiring schemes are potentially rolled out across the UK.

You need to have a driving license to use one, but helmets are not compulsory.
