Gone by Michael Grant – review

The story takes place in a small town in California when, in a blink of an eye, everyone over the age of 15 disappears. The book follows a boy of 14 called Sam, who has been a hero on many occasions, but then shrunk away.

Sam is a surfer with his best friend Quinn, but has a secret. He has mutant powers. As he learns to control them, he also learns love, fear and hatred. He goes from discovering one thing to another, including flying snakes, eagles with claws and talking coyotes whilst trying to escape a dangerous world. As if that wasn’t enough, he will also have to stand up to a new world power which is rapidly rising and who have their own little secret…

Gone by Michael Grant

I liked the book very much, but the writing is a little bit rude (but I mean, can you blame them? They’re all dying by the minute…) and it is a bit scary at times, with scenes of violence. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the main female character who wasn’t fierce but a genius. She wasn’t allowed to fight…

The cover, I think, is made so no-one knows anything about the story at all. It is simply black with the title in yellow in the centre. I highly recommend this pentalogy.
