'Gone but never forgotten' - Tributes left for Alex Roby, 20, who died in bike crash

Friends and family have paid heartbreaking tributes to a young motorcyclist who died in a crash.

Alex Roby was riding his bike on Bryn Gates Lane, in Bamfurlong, Wigan, on Saturday when it collided with a metal barrier.

Emergency crews were called but, despite their best efforts, the 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the days that followed dozens of bouquets of flowers have been placed at the site of the crash, near Bryn Hall Cottages.

There are also balloons and a high-visibility vest which bear the young man's second name, as well as pictures of him and bottles of beer left by people he knew.

One tribute, written on a balloon, said: "Gone but never forgotten."

Another simply read: "Ride easy."

A card left with flowers at the scene said: "Rest in paradise my brother. You are one in a million."

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident but a spokesman for GMP has said their inquiries are continuing.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with further information to contact them.

Sergeant Matt Picton, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the family and friends of the young man who has so sadly passed away.

"Our specialist officers are supporting them at this terrible time.

“Our focus is on ensuring we discern the full circumstances surrounding this collision and to do so we need to make sure we speak to any witnesses or people who may have dashcam footage around the area at the time of incident.”

Anyone with any information can call police on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 1207 of 12/09/2020.

Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
