Golfer who died with wife in M8 tragedy was set to be made captain of Paisley Golf Club

A dad-of-two who died alongside his wife in a horror car smash was set to be made captain of Paisley Golf Club.

Dave Campbell was the vice-captain of the Braehead Road club and was heavily involved in developing its junior section.

He and his wife Allison, who lived in Paisley, died after their BMW hit the barrier on the M8 eastbound carriageway, near the junction with Great Western Road, in Glasgow, on Sunday.

Heartfelt messages have since flooded social media paying tribute to David, 54, and Allison, 51, who was a teacher at Hillview Primary School, in Barrhead.

Billy Anderson, captain of Paisley Golf Club, said: “Dave was a very popular member of Paisley Golf Club and was due to become the club captain in early December.

“The passing of Dave has left everyone at the club in shock.

“Over the last few years Dave has been a huge asset to the club and dedicated a vast amount of time helping in many areas of the club.

“Over the last 12 months he was very involved in developing our junior section and was extremely popular with all the junior members and their families.

“Both Dave and Allison will be sadly missed by everyone at the club and our thoughts remain with their family at this sad time.”

Emergency crews raced to the motorway on Sunday afternoon around 2.40pm after the couple’s BMW 1 car collided with a crash barrier and caught fire.

Both Dave and Allison were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are still investigating the crash and have asked anyone who may have witnessed it to get in touch.

Sergeant John Bradford from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with David and Allison’s family at this sad time.

“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash or have any information that could assist with our enquiries to get in touch.

“Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on the 101 number.”
