Golfer Jarrod Lyle back in hospital after cancer relapse

Australian golfer Jarrod Lyle's wife says doctors have again diagnosed him with acute myeloid leukemia - the same cancer he was treated for in 1998 and 2012.

Earlier today, a statement from Golf Australia said Lyle was resting at Royal Melbourne Hospital awaiting tests.

Ms Lyle said the father of two was having tests to determine the best course of treatment and the number of rounds of chemotherapy.

"We're probably just still in a little bit of shock and can't quite believe it's really happening. Cancer just sucks," she said.

"The aim is to provide some sort of a cure at this stage, which is positive for all of us."

Ms Lyle said her husband had a "good track record" of beating the cancer and the family was focused on getting him into remission.

The 35-year-old was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was 17 and went into remission two years later, in 2000, before beginning his professional golf career in 2004.

He fought for his life after a relapse in 2012, but made his way back and resumed playing on the Australian tour at the end of 2013.

His family thanked those around him for their support.

"We are grateful to be surrounded by incredibly supportive people and we truly appreciate your consideration and respect for our privacy at this time."
