Whenever luggage is lost after a long haul flight it can cause problems for passengers, but when Emiliano Grillo’s bags failed to show up it caused more than most. The Argentinian is due to compete at the Olympics golf tournament on Thursday; however his clubs are nowhere to be found.

Grillo, who tied for 13th at the US PGA Championship, arrived in São Paulo on Sunday evening after a journey that took him from New York to Miami and then to Brazil. “Spent yesterday fighting weather, running through airports and looking for hotels at 3am and missed a fun day with some who support me the most,” he tweeted. But then the panic set in, prompting another outburst on Twitter, this time to American Airlines.

“Delays, rerouting and 20+ calls can’t find my golf bag,” he tweeted. “I am going to miss my chance to compete in the Olympics.”

He added: “@AmericanAir seriously, find me a human in JFK, MIA, or Sao Paolo that can physically look for my bag and confirm where it is and send it.” Next, he reached out to Latam Airlines to see if they could help, his frustration beginning to show: “I am going to miss playing in @Rio2016 because I can’t locate my clubs.”

American Airlines did finally get in touch saying: “We have a team of folks working on this for you.” Grillo’s response did not suggest he was confident of their success: “Thanks???” Minutes later he posted a poll asking his followers whether they thought his clubs were in New York, Rio, Hong Kong or Ushuaia, the province in Argentina widely regarded as the end of the earth.

Still, it wasn’t all bad for Grillo. In the midst of his worries, he did manage to get Dominos to deliver him a pizza at 3am.
