Solutions

1:B - The only hole with a palm tree, it is the first and least notorious par three at Augusta, but is devilishly difficult, in part owing to the fact the championship tee was moved back 35 yards to make it play at 240 yards. This was to restore Bobby Jones’s belief that a long iron or even a fairway metal should be used off the tee., 2:C - One member, speaking anonymously, told Golf World magazine in 2009 the annual fee amounts to “a few thousand” dollars per year. A separate source said that a one-off initiation fee, in “the low five-figures”, was also required to gain membership, which is limited to around 300 people., 3:A - Gary Player is not a current member, despite winning the Masters three times in 1961, 1974 and 1978. He is, however, the only person to have kept his original Green Jacket. All Masters winners must return their jacket to the clubhouse after the first year, but Player, as the tournament’s first international winner in 1961, accidentally left it back in South Africa when he returned to Georgia in 1962. Augusta National director Clifford Roberts allowed Player to keep it but told him " ... in all seriousness, please don’t ever wear it in public.", 4:C - Ernie Els, one of the finest golfers to never win the Masters, finished second twice at Augusta, in 2000 and 2004, and also finished inside the top six in 2001, 2002 and 2003. This was Vijay Singh’s second major and his only Masters win., 5:C - Until 1935, Camellia was the first hole. The 10th is traditionally the most difficult hole on the course, a long par four sloping left down the hill, with a huge 60-yard-long centre bunker as you approach the green. The scene of Rory McIlroy’s collapse in 2011 when his tee shot struck a branch and finished up beside the Butler Cabin to the left of the fairway., 6:B - As a former major champion, Daly would be among the players who receive an honorary invitation to play the tournament course each year during practice rounds and compete in the Par-3 Tournament. But instead, he often chooses to set up in a Hooters car-park under a mile away from the Augusta National entrance, selling merchandise and mingling with fans., 7:C - Between 1943 and 1945, around 200 cattle and 1,400 turkeys were reared on the fairways of Augusta., 8:D - In 2017, 2013 and 2011. Sergio García pipped Justin Rose in a playoff in 2017, when Charl Schwartzel was third. It was all southern hemisphere affairs in 2013 (Adam Scott beat Ángel Cabrera and Jason Day) and 2011 (Schwartzel beat Day and Scott). However, player from the US dominated the top three in 2018 and 2019., 9:A - Measuring 30ft by 40ft, the room lies up a steep and narrow staircase, above the clubhouse, and houses five amateurs playing at the tournament. A relatively modest place, the only out-and-out entertainment is a 19-inch TV with footage of every available Masters tournament., 10:B - Guan was 14 years, 5 months, 18 days old when he finished his first 36 holes at Augusta at four over, despite being penalised a shot for slow play. The previous youngest player to make a cut at the Masters was Matteo Manassero, who was 16 years, 11 months, 21 days old when he made the cut in 2010.
