Golf-gate: Dara Calleary resigns as deputy leader of Fianna Fail

Dara Calleary has resigned as deputy leader of Fianna Fail, Taoiseach Micheal Martin has confirmed.

Mr Martin said Mr Calleary, the now former Agriculture Minister, has also resigned as national secretary of Fianna Fail.

The Taoiseach has told RTE Today with Claire Byrne that Mr Calleary volunteered his resignation from both posts.

Mr Calleary resigned as Agriculture Minister last Friday morning after he attended the Oireachtas Golf event at a hotel in Clifden, Co Galway.

The Taoiseach has also said Phil Hogan, the EU Commissioner should make himself available for an interview.

Mr Martin said he is furious and "very angry" over Mr Hogan's and Minister's attendance at the golf event which has led to numerous resignations over the weekend.
