Monklands couples who marked their golden wedding during 2020 can now receive s special token from North Lanarkshire Council in lieu of the regular celebration.
The authority usually hosts a popular reception and tea dance along with neighbouring South Lanarkshire Council, attended by hundreds of happy couples from across the county, but last year’s event could not take place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Now all those from North Lanarkshire who were married in 1970 can instead contact the council by the end of this month to receive a token of recognition.
Provost Jean Jones said: “I’m sure many couples would have been looking forward to their opportunity to attend the celebration event, which is usually a very well-attended and enjoyable occasion but was obviously something which couldn’t take place because of the pandemic.
“As a small gesture, we would like to offer each couple a small token to commemorate their many happy years together.
“We know how difficult this past year has been for everyone and hopefully we can look forward to better times ahead.”
North Lanarkshire’s golden wedding couples from 2020 should apply by sending a copy of their marriage certificate by email to lamondi@northlan.gov.or by post to Golden Wedding Application, Civic Centre, Motherwell ML1 1AB by February 28.
