Golden State Warriors 2018-19 season in review: Andre Iguodala

Most teams don’t have much depth to call upon. For the Golden State Warriors, they have a former Finals MVP off the pine. It’s a luxury most teams can only dream of having.

Yes, Andre Iguodala won the 2015 NBA Finals MVP award when the Warriors knocked off the Cleveland Cavaliers the first time. Four years on, he isn’t that same athletic player anymore. But he is still serviceable and the Warriors were able to call upon him again in 2018-19.

Iguodala’s numbers aren’t eye-popping and they don’t move the needle. But he plays an important role for the Warriors. He provides the defensive jolt they need at times and coach Steve Kerr always calls his name whenever the Warriors need a starter.

In the playoffs, Iguodala had some big moments, including scoring 17 points in the Game 6 clincher on the road to knock off the Houston Rockets in the semifinals in the team’s first game without Kevin Durant. Iguodala upped his scoring average to 9.8 points in the playoffs and he scored 22 points in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

The veteran did announce that he will be coming back for the 2019-20 season despite rumors that he was leaning towards retirement after 15 years in the league. He will play a key role next season with the big injuries to both Durant and Klay Thompson.
