Golden State’s Klay Thompson suffers torn ACL in Game 6 ahead of free agency

The Golden State Warriors gave everything they had in Thursday night’s Game 6 loss to the 2019 NBA Champion Toronto Raptors. The Warriors nearly survived but their valiant effort once again came at a brutal cost as Klay Thompson’s 4th quarter knee injury turned out to be a torn ACL.

Thompson, set to cash in on a long-term deal as he enters unrestricted free agency for the first time, couldn’t have had the injury happen at a worse time. And while it has always appeared unlikely that Thompson would leave Golden State, LeBron James and the Lakers always appeared to be an option for Thompson if things didn’t pan out with the Warriors contractually.

But now with Thompson sidelined for the next 9-10 months and the Lakers facing a six-year playoff drought, that makes him a much less likely option to team up with LeBron James who is turning 35 this year.

Then again, conventional wisdom never really applies to the Lakers or NBA  free agency really. So strap yourselves in, it’s going to be a wild month or so of NBA silliness.
