Golden retriever moody after grooming accident leaves her looking like money box dog

A golden retriever named Evie was left in a mood after her over-excitement led to an accident which resulted in her looking like a charity money box dog.

Rachel Sharpe was tidying up her husband Joel's facial hair when the noise of the clippers scared their one-year-old son Christian.

Attempting to show him there was nothing to fear, Rachel, a nail technician, turned to their adorable doggo Evie to show she wasn't intimidated by the noise.

Unfortunately, Evie was so keen to complete her role as dog demonstrator to the best of her abilities that her excitement led to her accidentally headbutting the clippers.

As a result, the four-year-old retriever was left with a 1cm chunk of fur missing from the middle of her forehead.

Evie's spontaneous DIY haircut left a perfect rectangle cut out of the top of her head, resembling the coin slot you would see on plastic dogs raising money for charities often seen supermarkets and shopping centres.

The incident left Evie in a mood for the remainder of the evening, and pictures of her looking forlorn with a £2 placed in the bald patch went viral, being shared more than 42,000 times on Facebook.

Rachel, 25, said: "Evie has been left with the perfect shape of a piggy bank on the top of her head.

"The clippers just went down and out and took about 1cm of fur off her head. It's created a bit of a layering effect.

"Christian is quite scared of clippers so I was trying to show him it's fine and harmless.

"I pretended to shave the dog and show she didn't fear anything. And that's when she moved her head.

"Evie does like to be close to us all the time but I think she was intrigued as to what we were doing. She sat right behind me trying to see what was going on and then this happened.

"She was just so bewildered with what happened and looked at me like 'what have you just done?'

"Because I was laughing and crying at the same time, she didn't really know whether to be excited or worried.

"I did have to bribe her with chicken. She was not happy with me all that night until I gave her some chicken, but she's back to her happy little self again today."

Her husband Joel, also 25, isn't normally allowed to grow a beard because of his bomb disposal job with the RAF but he was desperate for a trim after letting it grow.

"I can't even grow a beard," he said. "There's about 13 hairs on my face and it was starting to look horrendous.

"I'm not allowed to grow facial hair but being off for as long as we have, I'd let the hair grow a bit and not had a shave."
