South Australian company Golden North has lost thousands of dollars worth of ice cream after cold-hearted thieves targeted their Nailsworth head office.

Golden North marketing director Trevor Pomeroy said staff discovered the freezer had been raided upon arriving at work this morning.

"We have a walk-in freezer out the back of the building and they brought a lever or something and completely levered the door open, bent it and mangled it and then took whole lot of ice cream from inside the freezer," he told ABC Radio Adelaide.

Mr Pomeroy said security camera footage showed two hooded culprits with a dog entering the property and using wheelie bins to cart the stolen goods.

"They emptied all of the cardboard out of our recycle wheelie bins and our neighbour's recycle wheelie bin ... they took all of the ice cream, put it in the wheelie bins and walked off down the road," he said.

The freezer was stocked with multi-packs of Giant Twins ice creams for the Golden North showbags.

"If anyone was planning on coming in and getting one of our showbags if you could just leave it for a day or so or phone the office because we will get more in but right now we are a bit embarrassed because we haven't got any here."

In addition to the stolen goods, staff have had to throw out between $3,500 and $4,000 worth of ice cream which had started to thaw because the freezer door was left open.

"Once it's thawed out you can't re-freeze it, it goes icy," Mr Pomeroy said.

Staff are hopeful the thieves will be caught.

"The police have been and our neighbours here have very, very good cameras so he should have smiled for the candid camera," Mr Pomeroy said.
