Golden Globes: All the glamour (and not) of the virtual red carpet

It was a Golden Globes like none we have seen before – streamed online to a global audience and with plenty of gaffes and controversy.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted for the fourth time, but in the ceremony’s first bicoastal ceremony, the comedians presented from opposite sides of the US.

Then there were the technical hitches that have become so familiar to many of us. Like a true victim of video conferencing, the night’s first award recipient, Daniel Kaluuya, delivered an impassioned speech – entirely on mute.

Kaluuya, who won for best performance by an actor in a supporting role for his work in Judas and The Black Messiah, spoke for a few moments before cutting back to a confused Laura Dern, who presented the award.

Then there were the outfits … or rather, non-outfits.

Unlike most of the other recipients – who Zoomed in sporting glamorous gowns and flashy suits – actor Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses, We’re The Millers), accepted best actor in a TV series (musical or comedy) for his show, Ted Lasso, donned in a super casual tie-dye hoodie.
