Golden Globes 2026: The 15 Messiest, Wildest & Most Iconic Moments From The Awards Show

That’s a wrap on the 83rd Annual Golden Globes, the messy, younger sister of the Oscars, where the champagne was flowing and all your fave celebs gathered in one place. Sure, the Golden Globes isn’t important enough to help someone achieve EGOT status, but it’s one of the few award ceremonies that celebrates both movies and TV in one epic evening.

What you need to know

  • The Nominees: Leonardo DiCaprio’s action thriller One Battle After Another led the pack with nine nominations, followed by Cannes Film Festival Award-winning drama Sentimental Value with eight. Sinners has also clocked seven nods, while Hamnet had six, and Frankenstein — starring Australia’s Jacob Elordi — and Wicked: For Good each landed five. Meanwhile, The White Lotus led the television nominations with six, followed by Adolescence with five.
  • The Host: Comedian Nikki Glaser hosted for her second year in a row after making history in 2025 as the award show’s first female host. She delivered a savage monologue filled with plenty of digs at the A-list guests, including Michael B. Jordan, George Clooney and Kevin Hart.
  • How To Watch: The 2026 Golden Globes kicked off at 12pm AEDT on Paramount+ — and will be broadcast on Network 10 from 7.30pm — but you can read about all the highlights right here on PEDESTRIAN.TV.

Nikki Glaser’s subtle tribute to Rob Reiner

While there was no in memoriam this year, Glaser subtly paid tribute to director Rob Reiner at the end of the ceremony by wearing a Spinal Tap hat as she signed off.

Reiner, who was found dead alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, in their home last month, was best known for directing Spinal Tap, The Princess BrideWhen Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men. He recently directed, wrote, produced and made a cameo appearance in the film Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which was released in September 2025. His final directorial project, the live concert film Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, will be released later this year.

Plenty of viewers took to social media to complain about the lack of a proper tribute to Reiner during the awards show; however, the Golden Globes has never done an In Memoriam. Glaser previously told USA TODAY that she had something special planned to honour the director instead.

“So there’s not a whole section set aside to honour everyone we’ve lost,” she said. “But I have something planned that I’m going to do in my own way to just acknowledge [Reiner] and celebrate him in my own way.”

Hamnet wins Best Picture – Drama

The final award of the night went to Hamnet for Best Motion Picture – Drama, with director Chloé Zhao clearly stunned when Don Cheadle and George Clooney made the announcement. Zhao, who won the same award in 2022 for Nomadland, thanked the cast and crew — including the film’s producer Steven Spielberg.

One Battle After Another wins Best Picture – Comedy or Musical

Is One Battle After Another really considered a comedy? Who cares, it won! The action thriller was the most nominated film of the night and ended up winning in four of its nine nominations.

Did someone say 2026 Best Picture at the Oscars?!

Jessie Buckley and Wagner Moura win acting awards

Hamnet star Jessie Buckley took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, all but securing her Best Actress win at the Oscars in March.

She used her speech to thank her co-stars and crew — especially the film’s grip who made soup for everyone on set — and shouted out her fellow nominee Julia Roberts for being “a hero to us all”.

Meanwhile, Wagner Moura won Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for the international film The Secret Agent, making history as the first Brazilian to win the award.

The three biggest TV shows of the year

The Golden Globes are designed to celebrate both TV and film, but the latter was the clear focus of the night. Not only did TV stars barely get a mention in Glaser’s opening monologue, but the majority of them were also seated at the back of the venue.

If you are someone who prefers binging TV at home over heading to the cinema, however, the award for Best Television Series – Drama went to The Pitt, Adolescence won Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television, and The Studio won Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy.

Add them all to your never-ending watchlist ASAP if you haven’t binged them already.

Heated Rivalry steals the spotlight

The award for Best Supporting Actress on Television went to Adolescence star Erin Doherty, but unfortunately, all of the attention was on the category’s presenters — Heated Rivalry actors Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams.

Williams told his co-star that he should picture the audience naked to stop being so nervous, which Storrie pointed out was difficult because everyone — and we mean everyone — has seen them without clothes. Sorry, not sorry.

Give them the award for the horniest award show presenters ASAP.

A golden night for KPop Demon Hunters

Not only did KPop Demon Hunters’ “Golden” win the award for Best Original Song, but the Netflix flick also beat out Disney’s Zootopia 2 and Elio to take home Best Motion Picture — Animated. I mean, is anyone surprised?

Bring on the sequel!

Adolescence actors win big

Adolescence actor Stephen Graham took home the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television. He dedicated the award to his mum and also, bizarrely, shouted out Queen Latifah and quoted Bob Marley

And the award for sweetest acceptance speech goes to his co-star, 16-year-old Owen Cooper, who won Best Supporting Actor on Television. This makes Cooper the youngest-ever winner in the category, beating Chris Colfer, who was 20 when he won for Glee

Timothée Chalamet wins Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy

He did it! Timothée Chalamet won Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his role in Marty Supreme, taking home his first-ever Golden Globe after being previously nominated four times. Personally, I think he was robbed for Call Me By Your Name in 2018, but that’s just me.

He is officially the youngest person to win in the category, so how’s that for pursuing greatness?

Chalamet thanked his co-stars and the film’s director, Josh Safdie, in his speech, and also gave a sweet shout-out to his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, in the audience.

“For my parents, for my partner, I love you, thank you so much,” he said.

Rose Byrne wins Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy

HUGE! Aussie actress Rose Byrne won Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, which she joked in her acceptance speech was made “in just 28 days for like, $8.50”.

She also shouted out her parents, thanking them for buying a Paramount+ subscription so they could watch the awards show from Sydney. Same, queen.

This is Byrne’s first major acting award — unless you count the MTV Movie Awards — and it’s a great sign heading into the Oscars.

Amy Poehler wins first podcast award

Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang won the Golden Globes’ first-ever award for Best Podcast and walked on stage to Charli xcx’s “Von Dutch” to accept the trophy from Snoop Dogg — because this truly is the strangest timeline.

Good Hang was the newest podcast up for the award, having launched in March 2025, and won against Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, Up First and Smartless — co-hosted by her ex-husband Will Arnett.

“I don’t know about award shows, but when they get it right, it makes sense,” she joked in her acceptance speech.

Jean Smart is a self-proclaimed “greedy bitch”

Hacks star Jean Smart won the award for Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy and began her acceptance speech by calling herself a “greedy bitch”, having previously won in 2022 and 2025.

She also said she was one of the luckiest people in the entertainment industry, adding that “it does not go unappreciated”.

The Pitt actor Noah Wylie also won the award for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama, so maybe it’s time this hospital drama veteran actually starts working as a doctor?

First two winners announced

Teyana Taylor won the first award of the night, taking home Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her film One Battle After Another. Unfortunately, she wasn’t nominated for her equally iconic role in Ryan Murphy’s legal drama All’s Fair.

Meanwhile, Stellan Skarsgård took home Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in Mamma Mia the Norwegian film Sentimental Value. While his win wasn’t necessarily a surprise, the fact that he walked on stage to Usher‘s song “Yeah!” was definitely a questionable moment of the night.

Nikki Glaser delivers her opening monologue

Glaser kicked off the Golden Globes with a bang and no one — and I mean no one — was safe from her digs. She joked about the Epstein files, asked George Clooney for help with her Nespresso machine, poked fun at Kevin Hart’s height and retitled the Wicked sequel Wicked: For Money.

She got her biggest laugh when she praised Leonardo DiCaprio for accomplishing so much in his career before his girlfriend turned 30 — and immediately apologised, saying she only made the joke because it’s the only thing people know about the notoriously private actor.

Celebs walk the red carpet

This year’s red carpet was STACKED with celebs, from award show mainstays Ariana Grande and Julia Roberts to newcomers and everyone’s current internet boyfriends, Heated Rivalry stars Connie Storrie and Hudson Williams.

It was also date night for Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, and Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco.
