Golden Discs opening new 'concept store' in Dundrum

Golden Disc is gearing up to open a brand new "concept store" in its Dundrum Town Centre shop this coming Saturday, April 23.

The Irish Times reports that the retailer's new store format will be dedicated to “super fans and lovers of popular culture”, stocking products including posters, books, bags, stationary, and merchandise from Marvel, DC, Lucas film, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter among other popular franchises.

The store will also stock pop culture products and specialist collectibles and figurines from film and other entertainment, as well as gaming and growing subgenres like Manga and Pokemon. Additionally, customers will be able to purchase a range of licensed clothing including t-shirts, hoodies and baseball caps from films and television shows.

Golden Discs chief executive Stephen Fitzgerald said: "We’ve seen huge increase in demand for merchandise over past few years and the time has come for a dedicated store to serve this growing market.

"For many, pop culture product is an impulse gift purchase but we are also meeting the demands of the super fans and devotees who are looking for the coolest fresh merchandise and must-have collectibles."

Golden Discs will also host a record day on Saturday which will take place in its stores in Dundrum and Jervis Street in Dublin as well as the Vinyl Lounge on Patrick’s Street in Cork and Eyre Square in Galway.

The music and entertainment retailer will offer a 20% discount on all legacy releases this week for online customers.

Stephen Fitzgerald revealed: "For fans of Irish music, U2’s 1982 single A Celebration will receive a 40th anniversary 12-inch reissue, complete with two previously unreleased recordings.

"Another classic celebrates the 40th anniversary of its original release: Thin Lizzy lead singer Phil Lynott’s 1982 solo album the Philip Lynott Album is newly mastered and released on 180gm vinyl."
