CHENNAI: Air customs sleuths seized 990g of gold worth ₹44.2 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on February 11.
The passenger, who had concealed the gold stitched inside his undergarment, was arrested.
Following a tip that there might be an attempt to smuggle in gold, customs officials intercepted Mohammad Yasar Arabath, 32, from Chennai, soon after he landed from Dubai on a Flydubai flight.
A check revealed that he had a plastic pouch stitched to his undergarments. A gold ingot weighing 990g was found in it, said a press release.
