Gold Cup winner Sizing John ruled out for the season by Jessica Harrington

Another injury setback has brought Sizing John's season to a premature end.

The 10-year-old was limbering up for Sunday's Irish Gold Cup, a race he won in 2017 along with the Cheltenham and Punchestown versions, when the issue was discovered.

Jessica Harrington reported the bad news after he had completed his preparation for the weekend's Dublin Racing Festival, where he was due to meet Kemboy, Delta Work and Presenting Percy.

"Sadly Sizing John will not be running in the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown," Harrington said on Twitter.

"He was not 100 per cent this morning following his last fast work at the Curragh yesterday.

"This is a new injury, and it will rule him out for the rest of the season. (It is) very frustrating for all our team."

Injury kept Sizing John off the track for more than two years from the end of 2017, after he achieved a rare Grade One double.

He fell on his long-awaited return over hurdles at the end of December, but connections had been pleased with him before the new problem flared up.
