Qld vaccine rollout to start on Gold Coast

Annastacia Palaszczuk says Queensland's roll out of the Pfizer vaccine will begin on the Gold Coast. (AAP)

Queensland's coronavirus vaccine rollout will begin on the Gold Coast.

The federal government took delivery of than 142,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine on Monday.

About 50,000 doses will be given to the states to begin the process of vaccinating hotel quarantine staff, frontline health workers, and aged care workers and residents.

Ms Palaszczuk says the rollout in Queensland would begin at the end of the month.

The jabs will be rapidly distributed at special hubs in Cairns, Townsville, the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast and Brisbane's north and south.

The first hub to start work will be on the Gold Coast.

"It will start in one hub first to do the testing, to make sure everything's fine, and then be rolled out to the other hubs," the premier said.

Ms Palaszczuk said she trusted Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young's judgment on the safety of the Pfizer vaccine.

"The World Health Organisation is very much saying that we have to vaccinate and Dr Jeannette Young has said that it is safe," the premier said.

"If she says it's safe, I'll be having the vaccine and everyone else should have the vaccine."

Queensland Health is set to provide an update on about 1500 people in the state who may have been exposed to coronavirus in Melbourne.

Contact-tracers are still trying to track down 50 people who travelled through Tullamarine airport.

Ms Palaszczuk said authorities have tested 800 out of the 1500 for the virus and all have come back negative.

Queensland has also taken measures against the outbreak in New Zealand which sent Auckland into a three-day lockdown after three cases were reported.

Ms Palaszczuk said flights will be halted but anyone entering Queensland who has been in NZ will have to undergo mandatory hotel quarantine.

Queensland reported no new cases of the virus on Monday, with seven active cases across the state.
