Gold Coast police find cannabis garden in hidden room

Police have uncovered what they describe as a sophisticated underground cannabis operation at Carrara on the Gold Coast.

Detectives from the Gold Coast child protection and investigation unit made the discovery while searching a property in Marrantin Court on Saturday.

A police spokesman said a sealed room allegedly used to grow cannabis plants was located under the house and locked behind a large steel door.

Police video shot at the scene revealed an elaborate cannabis nursery as well as racks of drying plants and plastic bags of drugs ready for distribution.

More than 100 mature hydroponic plants were seized, together with other illicit drugs including GHB or Fantasy and DMT, which is also known as Dimitri.

DMT is a powerful hallucinogenic drug that also occurs naturally in the human body.

A Carrara woman, 38, was arrested and charged with numerous offences including producing dangerous drugs and possession of cannabis and drug utensils.

She is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
