Gold Coast mother killed, daughters, husband seriously injured in horrific two-vehicle crash south of Brisbane

WARNING: Graphic content - Crash kills Gold Coast mother, seriously injures husband and teenage daughters

A Gold Coast mother has been killed and her daughters and husband seriously injured in a high-speed crash south of Brisbane.

The collision between the family's four-wheel drive and another car occurred at Cedar Creek about 6:30pm.

Yatala mother Julia May was killed in the crash while her two daughters, Caitlyn, 17, and Taylah, 15, were airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

Taylah has been moved to Queensland Children's Hospital and was now in a serious but stable condition, and Caitlyn was also stable at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Mrs May's husband Jason May was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

Paramedic Scott Brown from the Queensland Ambulance Service said it was a difficult situation for rescue crews.

"The scene was quite confronting," he said.

"The two cars were very badly damaged, one of the cars had been pushed off the road into the bush, so it made the rescue even more complex."

Mrs May worked as a teacher's aide at Rivermount College, where her daughters also attend school.

'This has hit us hard'

College principal Richard Young said the school community was in shock and grieving.

"Julia was such a bright and bubbly person," Mr Young said.

"She kept everybody positive and was always getting the most out of life.

"This has hit us hard."

Year 12 student Caitlyn is due to sit her final ATAR exam, while Taylah is nearing the completion of year 10.

Mr Young said grief counselling was being offered to staff and students.

"The May family have a very close association with our School," he said.

"The school will work closely with our immediate community as the reality of the loss sets in."

The driver of the other four-wheel-drive was also taken to hospital in a serious condition.
