Gold Coast man who allegedly threatened to kill Queensland Premier faces court

A Gold Coast man who allegedly threatened to kill Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and the Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young has made a brief appearance in the Southport Magistrates Court.

Aaron David Marriage, 43, has been charged with one count of using a carriage service to make a threat to kill.

Representing himself, Mr Marriage told Magistrate Kerry Magee he took issue with the details of the charge and needed extra time to seek legal advice.

"A few things have been changed with what was actually written, Your Honour, the so-called email," he told the court.

"At the end of the day I haven't seen my kid for a year, that's the whole reason why we are here."

Mr Marriage was not held in custody.

Magistrate Magee adjourned Mr Marriage's case to November 4.

Before his court appearance, Mr Marriage approached media in the courtroom and told them television cameras had been parked in his street all week.

"You have already breached the Privacy Act," he said.

Last month, Queensland police confirmed they take all suspected threats seriously.

"Where there is information that gives us concern for the wellbeing of anyone, we will take action," Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming said at the time.

"Either they will come to us or we will go to them and give them advice on their safety.

"My understanding is police have engaged with the Chief Health Officer and given her some advice."

When asked about the alleged threats to her safety at a press conference, Dr Young compared it to the hardships people had suffered during the pandemic.

"Of course it is tough, but as I say, this is tough for an enormous number of people."

Dr Young said she appreciated having the support of the Government and police.

"[It] has made me feel much, much safer doing what I need to do," she said.
